Furniture Features: Ultimate Home Living

Can you give an introduction to who you are and who/what your brand is? How long have you been in business? Have you exhibited at January Furniture Show before?
Robert Nicholson started Ultimate Home Living back in 2008 after many years within the Rug Industry. Now, fourteen years after the initial start up Ultimate truly is a family concern with Thomas Nicholson, Robert’s son holding the title of Sales Manager, overseeing all the Companies sales both in the UK and Europe. Shows are an integral part of the business, we use shows to network with old and new customers, promote new lines and catch up with peers throughout the industry.

How did you start your company? Are you a family run company? If so how has the company developed over time?
The Company was started on the back of many years within the rug industry and wanting to take the next step into Company Ownership, over the years we have built a strong family led Company, all colleagues within the Company are selected on family values making us a very tight knit team with success in everybody’s views.

Knowing what you do now, what advice would you give to yourself when you were first starting out? 
Started the Company off with very basic information systems, if starting up again I would definitely invest in an ERP system at the very start.

Can you tell us about your new collections/ranges that you’ll be launching at January Furniture Show?
We will be launching 19 new ranges which have been brought in during the last six months, within the ranges there are up to seven design options.

Any personal favorites from your new collection?
The Skandi Range within our HMC Brochure is a personal favorite, I like the clean lines and tonal pallet, we also offer this range in a complete square 133 x 133cm which works well within todays modern room settings.

What are you most looking forward to at the show?
The show is a great opportunity to highlight your stock to old and new customers but it’s also a brilliant opportunity to meet up with old friends from within the trade and perfect for team building with colleagues.

Do you have any highlights from the 18 months that you would like to mention?
The last 18 months have been challenging with Covid seeing business heavily uplifted supporting independent business’s trying there best to survive within a new and challenging world, recent events have seen all business’s going in a different direction due to shipping & transport difficulties which has seen us scrutinise all buying and stock control in a more detailed way.

What’s next for the company?
Our ethos has always been to ‘Just get on with the job in hand’ we like to forward plan and move the business organically and ethically taking into account all our customers and our team at Ultimate making sure everything moves in succession.
