Furniture Feature - Signature Kauri

Can you give an introduction to who you are and who/what your brand is? How long have you been in business? Have you exhibited at January Furniture Show before?

Hi! I’m Daniel and I am from Signature Kauri Ltd. I started the company in 2019 after returning home to the UK after living in New Zealand for five years. We planned to feature in the 2020 show which would have been the first time but it was of course postponed. The 2021 show will be our first appearance.

How did you start your company?

In my spare time I love to go walking and New Zealand was of course an amazing place to do this. During my time there I fell in love with the kauri tree. The trees each live for hundreds (and in some case over 1000) of years and have been growing since before the last ice age. The stunning furniture which is made from these beautiful ancient trees is like nothing else I have seen.
Conservation and looking after our planet is extremely important to me. Knowing that we only make our products from trees which fell to the ground naturally after being buried over 3000 years ago is a huge part of why I wanted to bring this product to the UK. Creating a product which is sustainable is vital to the company’s core values.
The company at the moment is run by my partner and I, with other family members (mainly my semi-retired father!) helping out from time to time.

Knowing what you do now, what advice would you give to yourself when you were first starting out?

Be brave. Put yourself out there. Bring your belief in the product to the forefront of your mind and have confidence in yourself.

Can you tell us about your new collections/ranges that you’ll be launching at January Furniture Show?

This will be the first time exhibiting our products to the public at any event. We have a showroom however this has always been by appointment only. We can’t wait to show everyone our beautiful product range.

Any personal favourites from your new collection?

My favourite kauri products are the coffee tables we have which areas of matte black resin. The black contrasted with the lighter shades of kauri which is found in the younger pieces really shows off the amazing grain and in my opinion is quite unique.

What are you most looking forward to at the show?

Getting to meet so many like-minded people who love to talk about what they do hopefully as much as I do. I think there will be a great atmosphere with it being two years since the last show and we can’t wait to be there.

Do you have any highlights from the 18 months that you would like to mention?

The company is only 18 months old! We are proud to have launched at what has been such a difficult period for so many people in the UK and around the world and to still be around to make it to the show.

What’s next for the company?

We would love to appear in select furniture stores where the product will be seen by discerning clientele who appreciate the old and unusual. The history of our products speak for itself and we are excited to bring this to more people in the new year.
